#1 Program Installation will not complete?

Upgrade to or install Internet Explorer 6 SP1. This is available on the trading program CD.

  • Place the trading program CD in the drive and cancel any installation that starts.
  • Open MY COMPUTER from the desktop, by double clicking on it.
  • Then RIGHT CLICK on the trading program CD drive and click on OPEN.
  • Double click on the IE6-SP1 install folder and then double click on the file iesetup.exe.

This will start the installation for you.

#2 The program loads but doesn't work. e.g. Won’t import data or Jet Database error or won’t connect to downloads. What can I do?

To rectify this problem, perform the following:

  • Ensure that the MDAC_27 file is run.( if using Windows XP, please MDAC_28 )
  • When this has completed, find the Jet40Sp3_comp file and double click to run file.

Now you can start your program.

#3 Your program won’t Analyse. What can I do?

Your formula values may not be installed correctly. To download and install the Formula Values files please Click HERE to access and download the Formula Values, and then complete the from and click the ACCEPT button.

The open your trading program, click on the Help Desk or Support tab, click on the Maintenance button, and then click on the Import Formula Values button, to install the file into the trading program.

Now you can do the Analysis again.

#4 Win XP can’t find Formula Values file even though it IS in C:\Temp folder. How do I fix this?

To fix this, do the following:

  • Start Windows Explorer and navigate to C:\Temp folder.
  • Right click on the folder and select PROPERTIES, click on the ADVANCED button, and UNCHECK Folder Compression settings.
  • Now do the Import Formula Values exercise again.
#5 My Advanced Charting is not showing a chart, or freezes. What do I do?
Un-install the trading program from Control Panel ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS, ( to locate Add/Remove Programs, double click on the My Computer icon on your desktop screen, then Double click on the Control Panel icon, and then double click on the Add/Remove Programs. ) and re-install the program module, by placing the trading program CD (not historical Data CD) in the drive and installing again.
#6 How do I Manually Delete a days data download?

To do this perform the following:

  • Open your program.
  • Navigate to the Update Prices page.
  • Click on MANUALLY UPDATE PRICES YOURSELF.
  • Type in the Master Code for your Stock Exchange (e.g. for ASX = BHP; for LSE = BAY; Please email Customer Service for the Master Code for your Stock Exchange).
  • Then click OK.
  • On the table that you see now, in the very left hand column (which is gray), click on the arrow which is located on the gray column, this will highlight the line.
  • Then you press DELETE on the keyboard. Select YES when you are asked to delete the line.
  • Go back to the update prices page, and click on the Refresh Price Data Dates button.
  • Now do the price download again.
#7 I’m having trouble logging in to Onlinestockdata site for the data downloads?

Open your Internet Explorer program and go to the Onlinestockdata site ( www.onlinestockdata.com ) and do the following:

  • Scroll down to the bottom of the homepage.
  • Click on “Having trouble logging in?” at the bottom of the page.
  • Click on the appropriate “web browser” being used. ( e.g. Internet Explorer or Netscape etc )
  • Then follow the VISUAL instructions, to set the cookies.
  • Also ensure that your anti-virus/firewall program is configured to allow the trading software access to the internet. ( See the help files in your anti-virus/firewall program )
#8 How Do I Manually Download from Onlinestockdata?

Log on to the internet and go to www.onlinestockdata.com and do the following:

  • Click on Members Login.
  • Enter the username and password supplied by Onlinestockdata to access the site and click Login.
  • Select data file required and save it to C:\temp folder. Close the download window.
  • Start your program and select update prices now.
  • Now click on Close Update Prices. This will now import the data into the program.
#9 How Do I Download an Attachment with AOL email?

To save an attached file to your hard disk, do the following:

  • Open the e-mail that contains the file to be downloaded.
  • Click on the DOWNLOAD button located at the bottom of the e-mail window.
  • Click "Download Now", and the Download Manager window will appear.
  • On the Save In field, click the drop down button to change the drive to C:/ drive.
  • Click SAVE.

Note: DOWNLOAD folder is the default folder where the file attachment is being saved when downloaded on AOL.

#10 How Do I Download an Attachment with MS Outlook or Outlook Express Email?

To save an attached file to your hard disk, perform the following:

  • Either Click on the attachment and select “Save Attachments” or RIGHT click on the attachment icon and click “Save target as”.
  • A “Save-In” window will appear. Look for the input box that is called “SAVE IN”.
  • Click on the down arrow in this input box and click on the (C:) drive.
  • The Folders that are in the C: drive will now be displayed.
  • Find the one called “TEMP” and double click on it.
  • The “SAVE IN” input box should now contain “TEMP” in the “save in” window.
  • Now click on the “SAVE” button and the file will be saved to the TEMP folder.
#11 How can I access “GREYED OUT” attachments in Outlook Express?

To do this, perform the following:

  • Open the Outlook Express program.
  • In the Outlook Express window, click on TOOLS.
  • Then click OPTIONS.
  • Then click SECURITY.
  • In the Virus Protection section UNTICK “Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could potentially be a virus”. ( N.B. It highly recommended that you reset this setting IMMEDIATELY after saving the attachment )
  • Now click on the APPLY button.
  • Finally click the OK button.
  • Close and re-open Outlook Express.

This will now make the attachments available to for you to save and use.

#12 How do I Install IE6 from trading program CD?

Your program is specifically set up to use Internet Explorer. The latest copy of this program is located on the trading program CD for you to install if required. Netscape is not recommended for the program download.

To install Internet Explorer version 6 from the trading program CD, please follow the instructions that follow:

  • Place the trading program CD in the CD drive and cancel the installation that starts.
  • From the desk top open MY COMPUTER.
  • Then RIGHT click on the CD drive (should be called Star Trader).
  • Then click OPEN.
  • Right click on the folder and select COPY.
  • Then right click on your desktop and select PASTE.
  • Double click the folder to open.
  • Find the file called IE6install.exe and double click on it to install the program.
  • During setup, choose the option to customise your setup and enable Vector Graphic Rendering (VML).
  • Once completed, configure IE6 to dial up your Internet Service Provider ( your Internet Service Provider Help Desk can assist you with this if necessary ), and then do the Trading Program download process again.
#13 You are told that Vector Graphic Rendering is not installed when displaying Tutorials.

If you invoke the Tutorials file and are told that Vector Graphic Rendering is not installed, then you may need to enable it. The Tutorials file will still display, but images are not shown. This only applies to users who are using Internet Explorer 5.5 or 6. By default in IE5.5 and IE6, Vector Graphic Rendering is not enabled.

Go to the trading program CD (cancel any installation that starts) and copy the IE6 folder to the desktop, open it and double click the ie6install.exe file, and follow the instructions to run the setup program for IE. During setup, choose the option to customise your setup and enable Vector Graphic Rendering (VML).

After this has been enabled, re-invoke the Video Tutorials file and you should now see images and should not receive the Vector Graphic Rendering error message.

#14 You are asked to recalculate the Auto Profit test each time you close the trading program.

You can either calculate the above every time you close the trading program, if the above appears, or follow the below steps.

  • Open your Trading Program.
  • Go to the WELCOME tab and click on update Prices.
    N.B. The Auto Profit Test may take several hours or more to calculate, depending on the speed of your computer.
  • Select ‘Manually Update Prices Yourself’ in STEP1 and type in: tblbacktest
  • Change Test Date to a date 2 years from now and this will ensure the message won’t appear for this period of time
